About This Species

Grow me instead of Yellow flag iris

Bearded iris are perhaps one of the more “showy” types of irises available due to their central frilly “beard” petal. These irises are available in a wide range of colors – if you are looking for a replacement to Yellow flag iris, choose a yellow variety. Otherwise, they are also available in pinks, blues, purples, and many other stunning color combinations. Bearded irises grow 20-70 cm tall, depending on the cultivar. They require moist but well-drained soil to thrive. As an added bonus, many Bearded irises are fragrant!

When selecting non-invasive plants for your garden, be sure to look for those that are suitable for your location, including moisture requirements, hardiness zone, and avoidance of known bear attractants among other factors.
