Piggy-back plant
Tolmiea menziesii
About This Species
Grow me instead of English ivy
Piggy-back plant is a native perennial with kidney shaped leaves and spikes of delicate, purple-brown, funnel-shaped flowers. It is called Piggy-back plant because new baby plantlets arise on top of the mature leaves. This plant likes dappled shade and moist, nutrient-rich conditions, like under trees or shrubs.
When selecting non-invasive plants for your garden, be sure to look for those that are suitable for your location, including moisture requirements, hardiness zone, and avoidance of known bear attractants among other factors.
