Selective Management of Multiple Invasive Aquatic Plants in BC Using ProcellaCOR FX Aquatic Herbicide

Date & Time: Dec 2, 2024, 09:00 AM in Vancouver

ProcellaCOR FX is a new low-rate, systemic aquatic herbicide approved by Health Canada in May 2023. Registered in the US since 2018, ProcellaCOR has an excellent environmental profile with no restrictions on fishing, swimming, or drinking following application. It can be used at variety of scales for selective control of major invasive plants in BC such as Eurasian watermilfoil, parrot feather, and yellow floating heart. ProcellaCOR’s selectivity of control can restore habitat by promoting recovery and expansion of desirable native aquatic vegetation. Along with an overview of its characteristics as an aquatic herbicide including ecotoxicology and behavior in the environmental, representative data from published scientific studies and operational experiences in the US and early results in Canada will be reviewed.

Dr. Mark Heilman is a trained aquatic ecologist with his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame and over 30 years of experience in the study and control of invasive and nuisance aquatic plants as well as strategies for invasive mussel control and water quality management. He is a past President of the Aquatic Plant Management Society (APMS), a current Director of the North American Invasive Species Management Association (NAISMA), and a Certified Lake Manager (CLM) as recognized by the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS). Dr. Heilman has led SePRO’s research, development, and regulatory efforts for ProcellaCOR since its beginning in 2010.
