About This Species

Zone 6b BC Native

Grow me instead of Yellow flag iris

Native to the Pacific Northwest, Oregon iris is a shorter selection of iris, growing to 30 cm tall with very slender, grass-like foliage and light blue-violet flowers. This species is drought tolerant once established and a good choice for drier sites in the garden. Forms with yellow or white flowers exist as well although they are less common. Oregon iris requires part shade and is a low maintenance, easy-to-grow plant. This species is also very attractive to hummingbirds!

When selecting non-invasive plants for your garden, be sure to look for those that are suitable for your location, including moisture requirements, hardiness zone, and avoidance of known bear attractants among other factors.
