ISCBC’s Dave Ralph Accepts Excellence in Weed Extension Award

ISCBC is proud to congratulate Dave Ralph as the 2019 Excellence in Weed Extension Award recipient, presented by the Canadian Weed Science Society.  The award recognizes excellence among active agronomists, scientists, educators, extension personnel or organizations in the area of weed extension or diagnostics.

Dave Ralph, ISCBC’s Extension & Operations Manager, has been with the Invasive Species Council of BC since 2015.  He began working with invasive plants as a summer student with the BC Ministry of Agriculture from 1977 to 1980, while working towards a degree in Forest Resource Management from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.  This led to a position with the BC Ministry of Agriculture as a Weed Technician, and later the Knapweed Coordinator for the Western Indian Agriculture Corporation, managing the Knapweed Control Program on First Nations land.  His work continued in various roles with the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, collaborating with ISCBC.  After retiring from his role as Regional Invasive Plant Technologist with the BC Ministry of Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, Dave moved into this current role with ISCBC.  He manages technical invasive plant extension, the Gravel Pit Invasive Plant Management Program and the Job Creation Partnership program.

Dave has published three manuals, more than 20 factsheets, weed alerts and management plans throughout his career.  He continues to be involved in extension activities with growers and land managers, giving presentations and serving as a guest speaker at regional and provincial invasive species workshops and conferences.
