Bunchberry
About This Species
Grow me instead of Common periwinkle, Purple deadnettle, Yellow archangel
Bunchberry is a spreading, mounding groundcover with ribbed leaves and attractive white flowers in the spring. In the summer, bunches of glossy red berries appear. Native to BC, Bunchberry is shade tolerant and enjoys moist, well-drained soils. It is a member of the Cornus (Dogwood) family, which is why it resembles a miniature Dogwood tree! The foliage of Bunchberry turns a lovely bronze/red colour in late summer and early autumn for added seasonal interest.
When selecting non-invasive plants for your garden, be sure to look for those that are suitable for your location, including moisture requirements, hardiness zone, and avoidance of known bear attractants among other factors.
