Agencies with regulatory authority over invasive species in British Columbia involves four levels of authority: federal, provincial, local, and Indigenous governments.

Do you think that invasive species legislation is necessary to increase effective and successful invasive species management?

If yes, what is required to enhance authority to be more effective at addressing the threat and impact of invasive species?

2. Collaboration

Successful invasive species management requires effective communication, cooperation, and coordination among many different levels of government, land management agencies, land users, provincial and regional invasive species organizations, Indigenous groups, researchers, industry organizations, volunteer groups, community groups, and the public.

How can collaboration be strengthened among all the parties involved in invasive species management to create a more efficient and inclusive network?

3. Introduction and Spread

Prevention is British Columbia’s best and most cost-effective tool for invasive species management and the first step in integrated pest management. Reducing invasive species establishment within British Columbia, requires eliminating the ways by which they spread.

What are the key pathways and vectors for spread and how would you prioritize them in importance?

4. Effective Control, Restoration, and Monitoring Programs

Taking field action to address invasive species is central to this Strategy. The control, reduction and elimination of invasive species is most successful when applied with restoration and monitoring strategies.

What efforts would be priority to achieving success in effective control, restoration and monitoring?

5. Support and Extend Relevant and Applicable Research

Future research efforts require adequate investment and extension. These efforts should expand on existing knowledge while incorporating the needs of resource managers.

What invasive species research is required or lacking in BC?

6. Stable, Long-Term Funding

Obtaining adequate, stable, long-term funding for invasive species management is a serious challenge, particularly when the potential economic impacts are not fully understood by all citizens or by all decision-makers. Investing adequate funding now is critical and is an essential aspect of this Strategy.

What kind of fundings or funding system would adequately support invasive species requirements in BC?

7. Action through Communication and Education

A key component of any Strategy is to encourage positive behavioral changes using an approach that assists residents, youth and visitors to adopt and foster responsible actions that prevent new introductions and minimize the spread of existing invasive species.

What are some effective methods to encourage positive and responsible behaviour to eliminate introduction and reduce the spread of invasive species?

8. Preparing for Climate Change Resilience and Protecting Biodiversity

What are some considerations, requirements, and opportunities to create more resilient communities and ecosystems for inevitable changes in climate?
