Together in Action Milestone Awards

Every five years on Council milestone years (e.g. fifteenth anniversary in 2020, twentieth anniversary in 2025), the full suite of five Together in Action (TIA) Awards are presented at a gala event during the annual Forum. We are now accepting nominations for the 2020 Milestone Year TIA Awards.
 

Milestone Year Award TIA Categories

The award categories are:

  1. Individual
  2. Business
  3. Non-profit / Stewardship Organization
  4. Government
  5. Student 
     

Awards Process

Who Can Be Nominated

Apart from the student award, any individual or organization that has made significant contributions to invasive species management, education and awareness, research, or on-the-ground work in BC is eligible for nomination. The specific criteria for the Student Award category are found below.

Who Can Nominate

On milestone years, members of the public and ISCBC Board Members can nominate recipients.

Award Criteria

The Award criteria are as follows:

  • Modelling leadership by inspiring others, building collaborative partnerships or successful teams, serving as a mentor, leading change for the better (catalyst), results oriented
  • Went above and beyond; contributed beyond the workplace or school duties to demonstrate significant dedication and commitment
  • Demonstrated innovation and uniqueness in his/her efforts in invasive species management and prevention
  • Work made a difference ‘on the ground’ and had direct, measurable impacts on invasive species in BC
  • A significant commitment of personal time
How to Nominate

Nominations can be made using the form below and should be based on one or more of the following areas of focus:  

  • Research - Demonstrates significant contributions that advanced the field of invasive species research.
  • Education - Raises awareness of invasive species issues including innovative educational approaches.
  • Management - Demonstrates significant contributions to prevention, management or control of invasive species.
  • Volunteer – Makes significant contributions to invasive species management, education, or on-the-ground work.
     

Student Award Process

The ISCBC Together in Action (TIA) Student Leadership annual award program is designed to recognize and celebrate the work of individual students who demonstrate leadership and innovation in invasive species prevention, work and management in BC.

Who Can Be Nominated

The specific creiteria for student award nominations are:

  • Post-secondary students 19 years of age and older who are enrolled in a BC college, university or technical institute
  • Undergraduate or graduate students
  • The student must be a resident of BC

Nominations are welcome for any student who is a resident of BC, and who has completed at least 1 year of study at a post-secondary BC institution (a BC University, college or technical school) towards a degree or diploma related to invasive species research, management, education, public outreach and/or social studies, e.g. invasive species biology, bio-control, management, education and outreach around invasive species and their impacts, leadership around social action, community-based social marketing, Indigenous people & invasive species, social and cultural attitudes, values and action towards invasive species, etc.

Who Can Nominate

Nominations may be made by the student or another individual i.e.

  • Students meeting the eligibility criteria can nominate themselves
  • Others can nominate the student (and others on their behalf: i.e. teachers, professors, volunteer coordinators, youth group leaders, etc.)
Student Award Criteria
  • Went above and beyond; contributed beyond school duties to demonstrate significant dedication and commitment
  • Volunteering will make a difference ‘on the ground’ and have direct, measurable impacts on invasive species in BC
  • A significant commitment of personal time
  • Modeling leadership by inspiring others, building collaborative partnerships or successful teams, serving as a mentor/ educator, leading change for the better (catalyst), results-oriented
  • Demonstrated innovation and uniqueness in his/her work / studies / volunteering
Student Sponsorship

A financial award of $1000 will be presented to the student at the ISCBC’s annual Forum. The winner of the student scholarship will be required to:

  • Write a paragraph that outlines why their research is important to the field of invasive species management;
  • Officially recognize the ISCBC as supporting their research work, and;
  • Give a poster session presentation on their research project at the Forum, preferably in person.

The winning student will be invited to attend the Forum.

Student Award Application Process

Interested students/nominators should complete the form below and provide the following supporting documentation of the candidate by email to dtoperczer@bcinvasives.ca:

  • Cover letter, including a brief biography, areas of study and interest, and two references.
     

Awards Review Process

Nominations will be categorized by ISCBC staff and sent out to a small review committee, using the established criteria and a ranking form that ranks each nominee out of 25. The Review Committee will be kept small and responsive (no more than five members) and include key staff, the Communications Committee Chair, a past ISCBC Chair and a current ISCBC Board member.
