Infestations of Common tansy displace native vegetation and may be toxic to grazers (leaves contain neurotoxins, toxic oils, and the pesticide pyrethrin). Dairy cattle consuming the leaves often have unpleasant tasting milk. It prefers sunny areas with well-drained soils, often infesting stream banks, pastures, and other disturbed sites such as roadsides.
