VIDEO: Williams Lake part of 100in1Day

Williams Lake Tribune, Monica Lamb-Yorski, Jun. 2, 2018 - WILLIAMS LAKE. VIDEO: Williams Lake part of 100in1Day. The lake city is joining 12 cities across Canada in celebrating 100in1Day, June 2.

Volunteers were busy working in a native plant garden at the Potato House Saturday morning.

The work bee was part of a 100in1Day celebration in Williams Lake organized by the Invasive Species Council of B.C. (ISCBC) which also includes a festival from 1 to 4 p.m in the River Valley parking lot at Comer Street.

“100in1Day is basically 100 positive actions driven by citizens across Canada in one day,” said Camille Roberts with ISCBC. “We have over 600 positive actions registered for Canada.”

Willliams Lake was one of the smaller cities chosen for the day, Roberts said.

At the event in the afternoon, there will be a weed-pull, children’s baskets, plants to give away, and the opportunity to win prizes. Residents will also be shown what invasive plants exist in the River Valley.

“It’s pretty neat to be selected across Canada to hold it in our community,” said Gail Wallin, executive director of the Invasive Species Council.

“Invasive species are spread by people often unintentionally, so it’s a great way to invite people to come out and find out how to protect our lakes and land,” said Wallin.
